2009
Eight members of
the Havant Wildlife Group (Fay, Heather, Derek, Rowena,
Jean, Chris, Jim and Ian) joined me on a glorious sunny
morning for a walk along the east shore of Fishbourne
Channel from Chichester Marina to Copperas Point, where
we had a break.
Here are
Ian and Chris on the saltmarshes at Copperas Point
Jim and
Fay having a close look at the plants on the
saltmarshes
WEST
MARDEN - NORE DOWN JUNE 2009
The group stopped
to admire a sweet smelling rose which was
clambering over a large tree in one of the gardens of
West Marden.
We encouraged Caroline to
swing across the stream on a rope hanging from a tree,
but she opted out in the end.
BROOK
MEADOW - May 2009
SATURDAY MAY 9 - BUTSER HILL
We puzzled for some while
over a plant which was only in bud, with Nigel hoping to
find the answer in his new vegetative field guide by John
Poland. Ros finally identified at as Common
Valerian (without the book!). Grid Ref: SU 7129 2059.
Nigel explained the
possible origin of the impressive grove of Beech trees
at Rake Bottom. The story goes they were originally
plantd as a Beech hedge around a house. The house is long
gone, but the now fully grown trees remain.
SATURDAY
APRIL 25 - HOLLYBANK WOODS -
We delighted in a
fine show of Early-purple Orchids.
A large patch of
Wood-sorrel was a nice surprise, on the southern side
of Longcopse Hill at Grid Ref: SU 7518 0837
Caroline French
also picked up the songs of Marsh Tit and Goldcrest.
Surprisingly, we did not hear or see a single Buzzard.
