I spent a week or so
in Isreal in the summer of 1992 which was quite an
experience, particularly the grilling I had getting in
and out of the place. I was actually attending a
psychology conference, but I didn't go to many papers,
except my own! You don't go to a place like that and
sit in stuffy lecture rooms listening to boring old
codgers (like me). I got around quite a bit mostly on
the bus, though it was very hot. I did a lot of
birdwatching and saw some smashing birds and visited
most of the holy sites, like Sea of Galilee, River
Jordan. Dead Sea, Bethlehem. I remember Bethlehem well
as I had to walk most of the way to get there as the
Jewish bus I was on did not go into an arab town!
Looking down at the spot Jesus was born in the manger
was a bit strange. Jerusalem itself was fascinating
once you got used to the sight of all the armed
soldiers. The wailing wall was very wierd. I took
about 150 photos - predigital so not on the computer.
But I have scanned a few I took of myself in various
places.
